Committee Room 20, House of Commons, London, UK
To achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 on leaving no one behind in education, children with disabilities must benefit from quality education without discrimination or exclusion.
DFID’s Strategy for Disability Inclusive Development 2018-23 declares: “Now is the time” and at the Global Disability Summit 2018, the Secretary of State announced a new Inclusive Education Initiative to progress education for children with disabilities. In 2019’s first Global Education APPG event, the group will look at the Inclusive Education Initiative and ask: What needs to be done to provide inclusive quality education for children and young people with disabilities?
Building on the Statement of Action on Inclusive Education, signed by more than 30 key organisations in advance of the Summit, we will explore some of the key actions that can help achieve transformational education for children with disabilities.
- Stephen Twigg MP, Chair of the Global Education APPG and the House of Commons International Development Committee
- Lord Bates, Minister, Department for International Development (tbc)
- Ola Abu Al Ghaib, Global Head of Influence, Impact and Learning at Leonard Cheshire Disability
- Dr. Nidhi Singal, Reader at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, UK
This event will be organized as a Q&A session with Professor Pauline Rose of the ESRC-DFID Impact Initiative as moderator asking each of the panellists a question to which they have up to 5 minutes to respond. There will be time for audience questions.
